I would recommend when not in use turning it upside down so it doesnt collect water, as in the photos so it looks a mushroom! I don't paint the fire bowls as they are thick enough not to rust out.

Also I prefer the honest look of raw steel rather than poor metal quality and workmanship hidden under paint.. I would recommend burning wood, a good dry ash is usually the best option.

Charcoal can be used for BBQ if that is your preference. The little bowl is great for BBQ-ing, let the flames die down and place a grill over the top and your ready to cook.
